Fly More, Learn Well, Pay Less
You made it a goal - To earn a pilot's license or add/complete a rating to your certificate. The minimum time required to obtain a FAA Private Pilot Certificate is only 35 hours. But, the national average is over 70 hours!

There is a paradox at play here. Your flight school manager and flight instructors encourage you to fly more often. Learning to fly is like learning any other skill.

Many years ago E. L. Thorndike, a pioneer in the field of educational psychology, defined the laws of learning, which are as relevant today as ever:
  • The law of exercise - those things most often repeated are best remembered
  • The law of effect - positive results occur with more frequent repetitions of positive learning experiences
  • The law of regency - things most recently learned are best remembered
It appears that learning to fly has much in common with going on a diet. Successful diet programs require regular exercise and daily change of eating habits. No one can lose 25 pounds overnight!

No One Becomes A Pilot Overnight
So what does this mean for you? You are motivated by the promise of achievement. A pilot certificate is a big one! Less than three-tenths of one percent of the US population has a pilot certificate! So remember the laws of learning!

The more often you fly, the sooner you will achieve your objective.

The Bottom Line
It will cost you less in the long run! A person completing the Private Pilot license in 4 months is likely to require fewer hours (fewer dollars) than a person who takes a year to complete the license.
